ACP & Tobin Consulting Engineers are thrilled to announce that their project at the Aran Sweater Market in Galway is the winner of the 2018 Engineers Ireland Excellence Award for Heritage & Conservation. We are incredibly honoured to have received this award for an exceptionally special project. The structures on Quay Street & Quay Lane in Galway were ruinous and lay derelict for ten years before intervention. This project involved the integration of a medieval building and a nineteenth century building into one retail space. Located in the Medieval Quarter of Galway City this wonderful complex of buildings is now in use and has contributed significantly to the social, economic and cultural development of the city, while maintaining its historic prominence.
The award was presented at the awards ceremony on Friday the 9th of November at the Intercontinental Hotel, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4.
The award is sponsored by the Office of Public Works and is open to engineering organisations or engineers for excellence in design or delivery of a project which conserves a historic property or protected structure. The purpose of the award is to acknowledge the contribution of the engineering profession in protecting the built environment by preserving or restoring a building or location of historic importance.
