Coachford Farm House Project

The dwelling at Coachford was an old stone two storey farm house with a number of extensions built on to it over the years – an incompatible mix of old stone walls and modern concrete structures.

ACP carried out a survey of the building and prepared a Condition Assessment regarding the problems with the dampness, coldness, rising damp and the inadequate layout of the house and liaised with the architect in terms of the structural issues with the house and the stone walls. The owners engaged Paul Redmond Architecture and ACP to advise on the existing problems with the building fabric including dampness, lack of insulation and structural conflict/failure.

The works carried out were a fully re-designed layout of the house to best suit modern living standards. ACP advised on dealing with rising damp, general dampness and upgrading the older part of the house to meet modern heating and insulation standards. Traditional lime render and other traditional techniques and materials were used in the repair of the old part of the house. Transition zones were built in to allow for the compatible coexistence of the old and new building materials.
